Joann E. McMillin

  Joann E. McMillin, (known to many who knew and loved her as “Jo Mama”), 82, of Streator passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026 at her residence in Streator surrounded by her loving family.

  Funeral services will be at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 15th at the First United Methodist Church, Streator.  Rev. Sherri Cisneros will officiate.

  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 15th at the First United Methodist Church, Streator. 

  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  Private family burial will be held at a later date.  The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

  Born April 3, 1944 in Streator she was the daughter of George and Desi (Haycox) McMillin.  She was formerly married to George “Duner” Wargo.  He preceded her in death on October 17, 2024.

  She is survived by daughters, Christine (Eric) Isermann of Streator and Kelly Wargo of Bourbonnais; her son, Dutch (Keri) Wargo of Chicago; grandchildren, Sadie (Brett) Gee and Heidi (Luke) Kling both of Gainesville, Florida; Harper and Dierks Wargo both of Chicago; as well as her great grandchildren, Logan and Stella Gee; and Addison and Isabel Kling; a sister, Nancy McMillin;  as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Beverly Cravatta, Roberta Casey and Judy Painter; a brother, Jim McMillin; and a great granddaughter, Lexie Gee. 

  Born and raised in Streator, she attended Streator Grade Schools and graduated from Streator High School. 

  Joann was an amazing mom, who worked multiple jobs at once to provide for her family. She loved to sing- and never missed a chance to break into song when any given word or phrase was mentioned that she could tie to a lyric to sing.  It used to drive us a bit crazy- but we are already missing this now.

    She worked through the years for Thompson Food Basket; a job she cherished for the many friends she made there. Joann also was an excellent cook and cakebaker- her trademark cake being the family birthday cakes with custard in the middle and her delicious Dutch Apple Pies. During the holidays, her house would be filled with poppyseed, nut, apricot and pumpkin rolls, along with her many delicious cookies. Her children and grandchildren were blessed to often stand beside Grandma Jo to bake and decorate cakes and cookies. Joann previously co-owned a catering business, providing delicious wedding cakes and wonderful food menus for events.  She retired from the store room of Commonwealth Edison, where she was not afraid to drive forklifts and do any job that a man could do.  Joann was beautifully independent, general contracting her dream home as well as doing the landscaping. She enjoyed all aspects gardening and decorating.

  Joann was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Streator. She spoke fondly of growing up in the church and of her Mom’s involvement as well.

    The pain of losing our mother is so very difficult but we, along with our cousins, are taking comfort in knowing that our Mom is now in Heaven with her sisters doing their line dance of “Sisters, Sisters, there were never more devoted sisters” and are back in their mother’s arms, who they’ve missed for so very long.

  The family would like to give a special thank you to Linda Dunning and OSF Hospice for the incredible love and special care they gave to their Mom.
