John R. Cassidy

John R. Cassidy, 59, of Streator passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at his residence in Streator.
Funeral services will be 12:30 P.M. Wednesday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Fr. Jacob Rose will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be from 11:30 A.M until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be John Pedelty, Tom Melvin, Keith Hilliard, Bob Shearer, Todd Pedelty and Rick Myers.
Born September 8, 1956 in Streator he was the son of Francis and Helen (Allen) Cassidy.
He is survived by a son, Alexander Cassidy of Chandler, AZ; grandson, Samuel Cassidy of Arizona; two sisters, Carolyn (Peter) Arnold of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Mary Ann Cassidy of Dekalb; two brothers, Michael (Beth) Cassidy of Mills River, NC and Thomas (Jane) Cassidy of Pontiac; nieces and nephews, Jennie (Shannon) Bever, Jim (Tracy) Arnold, Joe (Maureen) Arnold, Steve (Paula) Arnold, Katie (Carl) Burke-Arnold, Andy (Dawn) Martinez, Annette Arnold, John Martinez, and Patti (Brian) Grant; many great nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Terry, and two brothers Robert and William Cassidy in infancy.
Born and raised in Streator he attended local grade school and graduated from Streator High School Class of 1974.
He worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company for 39 years, most recently in the Forming Department. He was a proud member of his Union Local 3 and also served as the Union President.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of Sandy Ford Sportsman Club. John loved music, drag racing, ocean vacations and endured as a Cubs and Bears fan. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter.
Memorials may be directed to American Red Cross or the charity of the Donor’s Choice.
