John C. Stockdell

  John C. Stockdell, 94, of Streator passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

  John was born on the family farm in Granville, Illinois on February 19, 1928.  He was the son of John and Mary (Bima) Stockdell.  He graduated from LaSalle Peru High School in 1945.  He married Mary Esther Kasko on July 14, 1956.  She preceded him in death on April 17, 2022.

  John worked at Westclox in Peru before working at Owens Glass Company for many years until his retirement.  He and Mary retired to Arizona for 20 years so he could be within walking distance of the Cubs old Spring Training stadium to attend all their games.  He took up golf at the age of 62 and enjoyed playing until he was 93.  They returned to Streator in 2010.

  John is survived by children, Sheri (Scott) Karas of Littleton, Colorado, Johnny Rhodes of Ada, Oklahoma, Suzanne (James) Wille and Rick Stockdell of Streator, Lori (Allen) Missel of Belton, Missouri and Michael (Janette) Stockdell of Joliet; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

  He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; sisters, Esther Colome and Imogene Flanary; a brother, Gale Stockdell; and a grandson, Erich Missel.

  John loved to golf, playing bingo at the Villas of Holly Brook and spending time at the Casino’s.  He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.  He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren and following their sporting accomplishments and careers.  John will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.

    Cremation rites have been accorded.  Per John’s wishes there will be no services.  The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
