John J. Travers Obituary

  John J. Travers, 54, of Ransom passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.


  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 15th at St. Patrick’s Church in Ransom.  Rev. Fr. Bowan Schmitt will officiate.


  Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday, June 14th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  Additional visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M Saturday, June 15th at St. Patrick’s Church in Ransom.


  Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Ransom.  Pallbearers will be his brother, Mike Travers; brothers in law, Jeff and Mike Ludkowski; and close friends, Steve Scudder, Hiram Pantoja and Chris Ratliff.


  Born August 17, 1969 in Streator he was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (McClain) Travers.  He married Pam Soper on October 9, 1993 at St. Patrick’s Church in Ransom.  They renewed their wedding vows in Corfu, Greece on their 30th wedding anniversary.


  He is survived by his wife, Pam Travers of Ransom; sons, Drew Travers and Chase Travers both of Ransom; his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Travers of Streator; sisters, Mary Jo (Gary) Poldek of Streator, Viki (Dale) Crouch of Streator and Joan (Stephan) Meehan of Joliet; a brother, Mike (BJ) Travers of Streator; his father and mother in law, Bob and Betty Ludkowski of Ransom; his brother in laws, Jeff (Meredith) Ludkowski of Seneca and Mike (Shaina) Ludkowski of Streator; many nieces and nephews also survive.


  He was preceded in death by his father and his brothers in law, Robert and Jerry Soper.


  Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1987.


  After high school he worked for Murray Counter Tops until entering the apprentice program to become a Union Pipefitter.  He worked out of Pipefitters Local 597 in Chicago.  He worked most of his career for Hayes Mechanical in Chicago.


  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Ransom. 


  John loved the outdoors and spending time fishing, hunting, beekeeping and hiking.  He enjoyed taking hikes and trips to Olney for boating and fishing as well.  A loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle he will be dearly missed by his family.


 In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
