John Zupansic Obituary

  John L. Zupansic, 96, of Streator passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. 

  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. 

  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator.  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.  Cremation rites have been accorded.

  Born May 2, 1926 in Minonk, he was the son of Anton and Mary (Zupancic) Zupansic.  He married Medora Mueller on July 21, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Church in Minonk.

  He is survived by his wife Medora Zupansic of Streator; sons, J. Gregory Zupansic of Rosebud, Oregon and David Zupansic of Dekalb; a daughter, Kathleen (Douglas) Huey of Streator; grandchildren, Katilynn (Brett) Rathbun, Sean Kennedy and Tanner Kennedy; and great grandchildren, Carter, Kailey and Caden Rathbun.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Sodones, Pauline Brundnicki and Matilda Zupansic; and brothers, Anton, Joseph and Michel Zupansic.  He was also preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Snitzel and Lucy who he loved to walk and spend time with.

  Born and raised in Minonk, he attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from Minonk High School in the class of 1944.

  He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WW II.  

  He started working for Public Services as a Lineman in Minonk then moved to Streator which became Commonwealth Edison for 39 years.

 He was a 4th Degree member of the George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.  He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish.

  John was an avid golfer and hunter and enjoyed walking and riding his bike. He also thought the world of his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.

  The family appreciated the compassionate visits of O.S.F. home nurses and the health care providers at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

  Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
