John "Mike" Harcar Obituary

  John M. “Mike” Harcar, 74, of Streator passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025 at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa surrounded by his loved ones.


  A private family service will be held at a later date.  Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Cremation rites have been accorded.


  Born October 1, 1950, he was the son of Anthony “Tony” and Bernadine (Seipp) Harcar.  Mike was one of 16 children.


  He is survived by his daughter, Tina (Mark) Cox of Paris, IL; grandchildren, Blake Winningham of Carmel, IN., Brittany Parsley of Marshall, IL., Levi (Malary) Cox of Paris, Il., Zach (Brittany) Cox of Charleston, IL.; great grandchildren, Lexi Parsley, Emmett Parsley, Kylee Cox, Kamryn Cox; sisters, Sue Morgan of Streator, LuAnn (Jim) Hoarty of Streator; brothers, Danny Harcar of Streator, Steve (Chris) Harcar of Streator; brother-in-law, Larry “Chico” Poldek of Streator and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.


  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beverly Fialko and her husband Don, Carol Bucalo and her husband Sam, Patricia Starkey, Mary Poldek; brothers, Tony Harcar and his wife Marge, Mark Harcar, Dale Harcar, David Harcar, Donald Harcar, Gene Harcar and his wife Diane and Robert Harcar and his wife JoAnn.


  Mike was born and raised in Streator.  He attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School, Class of 1969.  He also attended Danville College for two years.  He worked at and became part owner of Tony’s (Harcar’s) Meat Market for many years until his retirement.


  When you saw Mike, you would always see him in his signature white T-shirt.  He loved to watch birds, especially hummingbirds, Fox News and Westerns.  He also enjoyed flowers, facetiming everyone and listening to rock-n-roll music.  He could tell you everything about a rock-n- roll band, including all it’s members. 


  Mike had the biggest heart, was kind and was an incredibly generous man.  He loved his family with all his heart and will be missed forever.


  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
