Joyce E. Heider, 81, of Streator passed away Monday, August 22, 2022 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 8:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Lostant. Pallbearers will be Scott Heider, Todd Heider, Corey Heider, Nathaniel Heider, Daniel Mertes, and Jeanne Hirkala.
Born October 11, 1940 in Hope Township, she was the daughter of Leo and Mary Ellen (Weber) Mertes. She married Al Heider on June 18, 1966 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lostant.
She is survived by her husband, Al Heider of Streator; sons, Scott (Ann) Heider of Liberty, Missouri, Todd Heider of Imperial, Missouri, and Corey Heider of Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren, Nathaniel Heider of Liberty, Missouri and Katherine “Katie” Heider of Liberty, Missouri; and a brother, Richard Mertes of Lostant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Allen Mertes and Ralph Mertes; and a sister, Sally in infancy.
She attended Lostant Grade School and graduated from Lostant High School.
She was a member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Joyce worked at Montgomery Ward in Streator for 8 years before raising her children.
She loved to crochet, cross-stitch, read, fish, and visit the casino.
