Karolyn J. Magelli, 89, of Louisville, Kentucky—formerly of Streator, Illinois—passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at her daughter’s home, where she had been living surrounded by family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, in Streator.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Streator, Illinois. Burial will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Streator.
Karolyn was born on April 25, 1936, in Streator, the daughter of John and Irene (Konchar) Bodznick. She was raised in a close-knit community and remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life.
On September 1, 1958, Karolyn married Paul J. Magelli at St. Stephen’s Church in Streator. They met when Karolyn was a ballerina and teacher. Their marriage of more than 50 years was marked by devotion, partnership, and family. Paul preceded her in death.
Karolyn devoted herself primarily to being a mother and homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home wherever life took her. She also worked balancing work and family with quiet determination. She is remembered by many young people from all over the world that called her ‘mom’ for the time she invested in them.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Merrell Magelli (Kevin Hopp) of Louisville, Kentucky; her son, Paul J. Magelli Jr. (Jasmin Phua) of Chicago; her grandchildren, Paul J. Magelli III of Chicago and Emily Hopp of Indianapolis; her sister, Bonnie Neumann; her brothers, Jack (Sue Brown) Bodznick and Craig (Jody) Bodznick, both of Streator; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; and her brother-in-law, Larry Neumann.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Magelli School of Experiential Learning at the University of Illinois Gies School of Business.
