Kenneth L. Berta

  Kenneth L. Berta, 70, of Streator passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

  Funeral services will be at 12:30 P.M. Saturday, December 30th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. Saturday, December 30th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  Active members of the Streator Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers and stand guard at the visitation.

  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  Private family burial will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator.

  Born January 7, 1953 in Streator, he was the son of Daniel and Maxine (Wright) Berta.  He married Joan Spivey on July 15, 1972.  They were happily married for over 50 years. 

  He is survived by his wife, Joan Berta of Streator; daughters, Kelli (Terry) Duvall of Streator and Jodi (Tony) Tamburini of Bloomington; grandchildren, Abbie and Taylor Duvall; and Tyler Tamburini; and a sister, Janet (Tom) Dodge of Streator.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Daniel Vogel.

  Born and raised in Streator, he attended St. Anthony’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1971.

  He served as a Streator Fire Fighter for 28 years retiring in 2007 as a Captain.  He later worked for Streator Drugs for 8 years.

  He was a member of the former St. Anthony's Church.  He also was a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790.  He was active through the years coaching his daughter’s softball teams and also with Streator Men’s softball where he served as President for several years.

  A loving husband, father and grandfather, Kenny enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, a love he shared with his family.  He got to enjoy his beloved Cubbies winning the 2016 World Series.

  The family would like to encourage people to wear Cubs apparel if they would like.

  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Streator Unlimited.
