Lawrence “Larry” A. Danko, 93, of Streator passed away Friday, June 21, 2024 at the ARC of Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 26th at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Leonore. Father Ignacio Cardenas will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Wednesday, June 26th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be Josh Danko, Alex Danko, Dustin Schaibley, Ben Huff, Aaron Velazquez and Jacob Donnelly. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
Born May 16, 1931 in Streator he was the son of Andrew and Margaret (Vojtko) Danko. He married Evelyn B. Fewkes on May 23, 1953 at St. Stephen’s Church in Streator.
He is survived by sons, Greg (Linda) Danko of Streator, Russell “Russ” (Doreen) Danko of Streator; grandchildren, Joshua (Mindy) Danko of Morton, Heather (Dustin) Schaibley of Streator, Abby (Ben) Huff of Streator, Alex (Ashlie) Danko of Lexington, Amanda (Aaron) Velazquez of Streator, Brianne (Jacob) Donnelly of Streator; great grandchildren, Landen Schaibley, Ashton Donnelly, Madelyn Danko, Logan Schaibley, Charlotte Huff, Evelyn Huff, Kennedy Danko, Owen Danko; brothers, Donald Danko of Streator, Andrew (Beatrice) Danko of Streator and Richard (Barbara) Danko of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and sister-in-laws, Beverly Danko and Gladys Pastirik.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School.
After high school, Larry worked at Thatcher’s Glass where he met Evelyn. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years on the U.S.S. Montrose during the Korean Conflict.
After serving his country, he returned home and worked as an electrician for 28 years at Anthony’s. He then worked for the Streator Public School System for 15 years in the Maintenance Department until his retirement in 1996.
He was a former member of St. Stephen’s Church and a current member of St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
