Leona K. Puetz

Leona Kathryn Puetz, 91, of Streator passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at O.S.F St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 A.M. Friday, August 11, at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8-9:30 A.M. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Leonore. Pallbearers will be her son Larry Puetz; grandson Aaron Puetz; nephew Randy Hollister; cousins Mark and Steve Puetz; and neighbors Bob and Graham Conness.

Born March 4, 1926 in Streator, she was the daughter of Ernest and Myrtle (Cokley) Hadley. She married Vernon R. Puetz on January 18, 1945 at St. Anthony Church, Streator, and celebrated their 72nd anniversary this year. Vernon continues to reside in Streator.

Leona is also survived by a son, Larry (Linda) Puetz of Naperville; grandchildren, Lauren Puetz of Downers Grove and Aaron Puetz of Lake Orion, Michigan. She also left behind her faithful cats, Socks and Fuzzy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Ruth Hollister, and a brother Arnold Hadley.

Born and raised in the Streator area, she lived her lifetime here.

She was a licensed beautician, operating a beauty shop in her home for many years. She also farmed along with her husband in the Eagle Township area.

Leona was a devout member of the former St. Anthony Church and current St. Michael the Archangel Parish.

Leona and her husband Vernon were avid motorcycle riders, traveling throughout the United States. Leona loved baking and was famous for her pies made from pumpkin, cherries, apricots, rhubarb, and apples grown on the farm, which she would make for everyone she knew. She remained active throughout her life with gardening and participation in many clubs, including Foresters, bowling, bingo, and cards.

Memorials may be directed to St. Michael the Archangel School.
