Loren S. Corell, Jr., 85, passed away Wednesday, July 7, at his home in Ballwin, Missouri. He is survived by his wife and soul-mate, Sharon (Liptak) Corell; daughters Judy (Jim) Stumpf of St. Charles, Missouri, Linda (Steve Farlow) Corell of San Francisco, and Lori Grassman of Denton, Texas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Kay (Jack) Corell of Omaha, Nebraska, and Janine (Joseph) Petric of Morris, Illinois; brothers-in-law David (Diane) Liptak of Bloomington, Illinois, and Brian (Angie) Liptak of Wauconda, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren S. Corell, Sr., and Frieda (Janke) Hoge, brother Jack Corell of Omaha, Nebraska, and sisters Barb Alderson of Salem, Oregon, and Donna Mackey of Bolivar, Missouri.
Loren served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955, assigned to Camp Pendleton, California. He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Church where he sang in the church’s former choir for 12 years.
A lifelong artist, Loren ran his own graphic design and fine art studio for nearly 60 years. He sold his paintings in various galleries and at art fairs throughout the Midwest. People from La Jolla, California, to Danbury, Connecticut, currently enjoy his work. Loren lived to paint. He spent time in his studio every day until his declining health prevented him from continuing in late 2020.
Loren was a great storyteller and friend to everyone. His smile will be missed.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Sunday (July 11, 2021) at Schrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road, Ballwin, Missouri. His funeral Mass will be at St. Clare of Assisi Church, 15642 Clayton Road, Ellisville, Missouri, on Monday.
Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM-Noon Wednesday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator followed by graveside services at St. Stephen’s Cemetery with full military rites will be accorded by members of American Legion Post 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
