Margaret Spangler Obituary

Margaret M. Spangler, 83, of Streator was called to Heaven Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Monday at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Ryan Mattingly will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator. Pallbearers will be, Trace Spangler, Seth Spangler, Dan Yuhas, Tim Yuhas, Hal Yuhas and Rob Schmidbauer.

Born May 30, 1935 in Streator, she was the daughter of John and Helen (Woll) Yuhas. She married Jerry Spangler on February 23, 1957 at St. Anthony Church, Streator.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Spangler of Streator; sons, Gregory (Deborah) Spangler of Streator and David Spangler of Streator; grandsons, Trace (Kelsey Murphy) Spangler of Streator and Seth Spangler of Streator; brothers, Francis (Carolyn) Yuhas of Streator, Vince Yuhas of Streator and Edward (Theodora) Yuhas of Sparta, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sons, Charles and James, a son, John and a daughter in infancy; a brother, John Yuhas; and sister in laws, Margaret Mary Yuhas and Elizabeth Yuhas.

Born and raised in Streator she attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1953.

She lived in Streator, Joliet and Taylorville through the years.

She worked at Lipton Tea, Owens Illinois Glass and Radiation Polymer in Plainfield.

She was a long time member of the former St. Anthony Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. Margaret was very active with the church volunteering in church cleaning, parish activities, money counting, parish bakers, funeral honor guard and the church’s Contemporary Choir. She currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Michael’s. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and was involved with the Christ Child Society through the years.

Margaret was famous for her baking and her elaborate spread of cookies and candies during the holiday season that was so treasured by her family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be dearly missed by her loving family.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the March of Dimes.
