Mary Therese Darrow, 64, of Streator passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, January 02, 2022, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, after a courageous battle with a grade IV glioblastoma, the most aggressive malignant brain tumor.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic a private family service will be held. A Celebration of Life is planned for this summer.
Born September 18th, 1957, in Streator, Mary was the daughter of John “Jack” and Mary (Hudak) Urbance. She married William D. “Bill” Darrow on July 24th, 1982.
Surviving are her husband, Bill, a son, William T. “Bill” Darrow, and a daughter Rosemary Therese “Rosie” Darrow. Mary is also survived by her brothers Ronald Urbance of Streator; John (Lisa Nagler) Urbance of Battle Creek, Michigan; and her sister Jeanne Urbance of Streator.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws; William G. and Mary J. Darrow.
Born and raised in Streator, Mary graduated from Streator High School, Illinois Valley Community College and Illinois State University with a degree in elementary education. Mary taught 4th grade at Centennial School and retired from Streator Elementary School District #44.
Mary’s passion was teaching, and she will continue providing lessons. Mary has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for medical research and utilization in an Illinois higher education institution. Cremation rites will be accorded at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Glioblastoma Research Organization (gbmresearch.org), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research organization founded to create a focus for glioblastoma.
