Mary P. Rizzo, 89, of Princeton and formerly of Streator passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Liberty Village in Princeton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 13th at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. Thursday, June 12th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Further visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 13th at the funeral home prior to the Mass.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be Greg Olson, Michael Olson, Matthew Whittenhall, James Fraher, David Barra and Scott Novak.
Born October 8, 1935 in Oglesby she was the daughter of Carlo and Rachele (Binda) Barra. She married Joseph M. Rizzo on June 14, 1958 at Holy Family Church in Oglesby. He preceded her in death on September 1, 2012.
She is survived by daughters, Susan (Greg) Olson of Princeton and Laurie Lahr of Lincoln; grandchildren, Emily Olson of Chicago, Michael Olson of Princeton, Megan (Matthew) Whittenhall of Plainfield and Kristen Lahr of Springfield; nephews, David (Sue) Barra, Michael (Sandy) Novak; and a niece, Carol (James) Fraher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother and a sister-in-law, Angelo and Arlene Barra; a niece, Marilyn Miller and nephew, Thomas Baietto.
Mary graduated from Washington Grade School and LaSalle-Peru High School in the class of 1953. She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class.
Mary was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of her church, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Immaculate Conception Resurrection Adult Choir through the years.
She was employed as the Secretary for St. Mary’s Cemetery and St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery Association for many years.
Mary was an avid Cubs fan and finally was able to see them win the World Series in 2016. Family was very important to Mary and she loved every minute spent together with them. She was a faithful caregiver for many family members throughout the years. She had a true servant’s heart. She was a wife and mother who was very proud of her children, grandchildren, niece and nephews. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and was able to visit Italy and her relatives several times. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
