Mary Grace Gula Obituary

The world lost a beloved mother and grandmother when she went to be with the Lord.

Our dear mother, Mary Grace (Elias) Gula sadly passed away on May 4, 2024 at ARC in Streator.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 9th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  Deacon Robb Caputo will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be her sons, Ken and Gary Gula; and grandsons, Rick Jepsen, Brian Kelly, Nate Black and Grant Gula.

Born October 11, 1926 in Streator she was the daughter of Andrew and Susan (Churney) Elias.  She married George J. Gula on November 9, 1946.  He preceded her in death on October 29, 2008.

She is survived by her children, Janice Hrasch of Streator, Dianne (Patrick) Kelly of Streator, Barb (Brian) Watson of Streator, Ken (Jean) Gula of Streator and Gary (Tricia) Gula of Dewey; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Majernik of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, George E. Gula; a daughter, Tina Black; a great granddaughter, Annabelle Marie Jelinek; sisters, Louise Hall, Dorothy Elias and Irene Reihl; brothers, Edward and Robert Elias; and a son in law, John Hrasch.

Mary Grace was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend and was always there when anyone needed her.  She was so full of love for her family and strived to bring us all together for any occasion to celebrate.  Grace was a very talented self-taught organist and composed 2 songs, wrote 16 poems and memorized them all.  She was most proud of her family and extended family.

She went to work at the Paris Garter Factory during WWII and worked several jobs until they started to raise a family.  After her last child started school she went back to work at St. Mary’s Hospital until she retired at the age of 72.

Grace may have left this earth but the impact she had on her family, friends and neighbors will be felt forever.  She will be missed until we meet again.

She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
