Mary Lou Rubis Obituary

  Mary Lou Rubis, 75, of Streator passed away at the Pavilion of Ottawa on August 10, 2024.    


  Born October 23, 1948 in Streator she was the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Repko) Rubis. Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, James, John, and Bob.


  She is survived by a sister, Jean (Ron) Voights of Post Falls, Idaho and a brother, Don (Rose) Rubis of Somonauk, Illinois; three nephews, Tim (Kim) Rubis of Montgomery, Illinois, Bill (Mary) Rubis and Brian Rubis of Ankeny Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Rubis of Ankeny, Iowa.


  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Friday, August 16th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator. 


  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the church.  Rev. John Gutz will officiate.


  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.


  Mary Lou graduated from Streator High School and Illinois Valley Community College.  She later attended Northern Illinois University as well. She worked a number of years at Thatcher’s Glass and finally at St Mary’s Hospital in Streator prior to having a stroke in 2012.  


  Mary Lou was known throughout the area for her baking of pies, cakes, and other Slovak specialties, skills that she inherited from her mother. She was a caring person with a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious smile. She will be missed. 


  In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Illinois Valley Brain Injury Clubhouse.
