  Merlene R. “Honey” Martin, 93, of Streator passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Arc of Streator.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, February 24th at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

  Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 24th  at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Cremation rites have been accorded.

  Born September 15, 1930 in Monterrey, Minnesota she was the daughter of Lloyd Semans and Sarah Noble.  She married E. Dean Martin on May 15, 1954.  He preceded her in death in 1995.

  She is survived by daughters, Jayne (Tony) Proe of Syracuse, New York and Jodie (Eric) Hoffmeyer of Streator; a son, Danny (Yoli) Martin of Mission Viejo, California; grandchildren, Blake (Megan) Baker of Ottawa, Regan Baker of Streator, Chloe Baker of Streator, Alex (Brittany) Martin of Orange, California, Sarah (Nathan) Finn of Roseville, California, Alexandra (Adrian) Anaya of Lake Forest, California, Lilliana and Sophie Proe both of New York; and Ethan Hoffmeyer of Streator; great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Jax and Beau Baker of Ottawa and Adrienne and Ava Anaya of Lake Forest, California 

  She was preceded in death by her husband Dean Martin; brothers, Roy and James Cairns, Merle Semans; her sisters Sarah Benge, Viola Carlson, LaVern Defenbaugh and Beulah “Booie” Fredrickson; a son in law Todd Baker along with her parents. 

  Born in Minnesota she moved to Streator in her teen years.  She graduated from Streator High School.

  She was a homemaker through the years.

  She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.  She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. 

  Honey enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many, many friends she had throughout her life.  She enjoyed volunteer work, especially at St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator.  She also enjoyed coaching cheerleading, playing cards and she especially loved her freedom to drive at all times of the day.

  Memorials may be directed to the Streator High School Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
