Millie Murphy Obituary

  Millie E. Murphy, 79, of Streator passed away Friday, June 24, 2022 at her residence in Streator.

  Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Private family burial will be held at a later date in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator.

  Born June 12, 1943 in Streator she was the daughter of John and Mary (Hallam) Cole.  She married Ronald Murphy on July 18, 1988.  He preceded her in death on April 12, 2021.

  Millie was named after her maternal Aunt Mildred “Millie” Hallam Rapp.  According to a well-known magazine article titled, “I Have 12 Children & Love it,” that was written by her mother Marye Cole, at the age of 27 years old.  Millie’s mother Mary made mentions that Millie was the spitting image of her, which held true throughout her lifetime.  Millie was the sixth of 18 siblings.

  She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Lynn Von Ruden- Novak of Streator; a son, Jerry Pitte Jr. of Streator; granddaughter, Stephanie (Brian) Smith of Streator; grandsons, Kyle Novak and Michael Novak both of Streator; great grandchildren, Tristan Scarber of Phoenix, Arizona; Amaya Hendon of Ottawa and Phoenix Smith of Streator; stepchildren, Ronald (Judy) Murphy Jr. of Branson, Missouri, Elizabeth (Craig) Hancock of Waverly, Iowa, Robin (Julie) Murphy of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Clarence (Barb) Palmer of Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan (Karen) Murphy of Kansas City, Missouri; 10 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; sisters, Sami Jo (Ross) Frazier of Pahrump, Nevada, Rose (Keith) Grant of Leesburg, Florida, Phyllis (Gary) Durree of Tucson, Arizona and Jane (Jack) Duvick of Morris; brothers, Devon (Ronelva) Cole of Waco, Texas, William (Karen) Cole of Peoria, Craig (Diane) Cole of Azler, Texas, Randolph (Kim) Cole of Fort Worth, Texas, Mark Cole of Streator, Charles (Linda) Cole of Streator and Ralph (Laurie) Cole of Streator.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; her maternal and paternal grandparents; her husband; her daughter, Alice Marie Soule-Miller; grandson, William “B.J.” Hendon; great-granddaughter, Hayley Raine Hendon; sisters, Carol Jean Cole, Jacqueline Mary Munn; brothers, Stephen Brent Cole, Michael James Cole, Carson Coral Cole and John Martin Cole Jr.

  Born and raised in Streator Millie attended Wilson Elementary School, Woodland High School.  She was an active member of the Church of the Open Bible.  She loved and enjoyed her co-workers at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home for the last 23 years.  Millie had a servant’s heart and enjoyed everyone she met.  Family and friends were held in the highest esteem and considered very important to her.

  She served on the Neighborhood Watch and Drug Coalition for many years.  She also served as an Election Judge in the 1970’s

  Millie loved tending to her household plant and her garden.  She enjoyed collecting Angels and especially loved her many furry friends through the years, both her dogs and cats.
