Nancy E. Battershell

Nancy Elizabeth (Chalkey) Battershell, 82, of Streator, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 23, 2021 St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Serving as honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great grandchildren, Harry Arroyo, and Humberto Macias.
Born October 13, 1938 in Streator, Nancy was the daughter of Albert and Beatrice (Crawford) Chalkey. She married James Richard(Dick) Battershell on June 6, 1959 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. He survives in Streator.
Nancy is survived by daughters Debra Woodward and Jennifer Osborn (Harry Arroyo), son Douglas Battershell, all of Streator; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Nancy’s sister, Margaret Yanak of Overland Park, KS and sisters-in-law Cindy Chalkey of Streator, and Shirley Chalkey of Florida.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert (Bob), William Michael (Mick), Richard (Dick), Thomas (Tommy), and Terrence (Terry) and a sister, Katherine Baumgardner.
A Streator resident all her life, Nancy completed her education at St. Stephen’s Grade School and Streator High School. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
Nancy retired from Owens Illinois Glass Company in July of 1994 and was a member of GMP Local #140.
Nancy enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports. She was a gifted crafter and homemaker whose hospitality made you feel welcome and loved. Nancy was an avid Cub fan and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorials may be directed to the family or charity of the donor’s choice.
