Neal W. Rankin, 86, of Streator died unexpectedly Thursday (July 29, 2021) in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Streator, with Rev. Bill Callister, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Burial with full military rites, conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rankin was born September 2, 1934 in Streator the son of Walter and Alice (Van Namee) Rankin. He married Carole Orban, July 12, 1959 in Streator. She survives.
Neal and his father had operated Rankin Delivery and Chair Rental and he later retired from General Electric in Marseilles in 1994.
Neal was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ducks Unlimited, the NRA and a founding member of McGrath’s 40 Duck Club. Neal was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to relive his experiences in story form. He attended Streator schools and was a graduate of Streator High School, class of 1952. Neal served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Rankin of Streator, one daughter, Kay (Rob) Scamen, Graniteville, S. Carolina, one son, Kurt (Lorena) Rankin, Springboro, Ohio, two granddaughters, Rachel (Dave) Curtis and Ally Lewber, two grandsons, Casey and Spencer Scamen, two great granddaughters, Leila and Kiah Scamen, also surviving is a sister, Marcia (Cory) Schmillen, Toluca.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Leo Orban Jr.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Neal was a good husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family very much and will be dearly missed.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran wall fund, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the donor’s choice.
