Patrick Hatzer Obituary

Patrick J. Hatzer Sr., 85, of Cornell passed away peacefully Sunday, August 18, 2019 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 26, 2019 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

Visitation will be from 3-6 P.M. Sunday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be, Terry Mullen, Marty Hatzer, Doug Hatzer, Rich Hatzer, Ed Capko and Tim Kenney. Full military honors will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Born September 2, 1933 in Streator he was the son of Louis and Helen (Pickworth) Hatzer. He married Annette Elias on December 1, 1956 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Hatzer of Pontiac; a son, Patrick (Aggie) Hatzer Jr., of Streator; daughters, Cindy (Jim) O’Brien of Rockton, Illinois, Cheryl (Dr. Jeffry) Tillery of Dunlap, Lisa (Gary) Shay of Hoschton, Georgia and Kim (Brian) Martin of Long Point; grandchildren, Sean (Meghan) Cramer, Ryan Cramer, Michelle (Ry) Whittington, Meghan (Chris) Krzan, Jennifer (Seth) Uphoff, Alyssa (Kristina DeRycke) Tillery, Brian Tillery, Maggie Shay, Kelly (Kelsey Jones) Shay, Erin (Jairius) Mayweather, Kevin Shay, Kayla (Ben Burton) Martin, Sarah Martin; 8 great grandchildren (and three on the way), a brother, Richard (Carol Ann) Hatzer of Pontiac; a sister, Helen Capko of Cornell and a brother in law, Bill Kenney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Sean Patrick Hatzer; sisters, Mary Kenney and Joan Mullen; and brothers in law, Edward “Bud” Capko and John Mullen.

Pat was raised and lived his lifetime in the Cornell area. He attended Cornell schools and graduated from Cornell High School in the class of 1951.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Pat was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for the family owned business, Valley View Industries in Cornell for many years retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Mary’s Church in Pontiac.

He was a former member of the George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 and the Parish Council at St. Anthony’s Church.

Memorials may be directed to the Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.
