Patrick Solon Obituary

  Patrick J. Solon, 58, of Streator passed away Monday, May 16, 2022 at his residence after a courageous 8 year battle with ALS.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 23rd at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.  Rev. Fr. Austin Bosse will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Ben Creamean, Troy Garretson, Jim Danko, Jeff Yacko, Bruce Halco, Dave Tkach and Dave Lightle.  Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Bart, Ed, Everett, Tony, Jerry and Tom Solon.

  Visitation will be from 2-5 P.M. on Sunday, May 22nd at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  The rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M.

  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. 

  Burial will be at a later date in Lostlands Cemetery in Eagle Township.

  Born September 26, 1963 in Streator he was the son of John R. and Kathryn “Kitty” (Mack) Solon.  He married Mary D. Warren on March 17, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Church, Streator. 

  He is survived by his wife, Mary D. Solon of Streator; his mother, Kathryn “Kitty” Solon of Streator; stepchildren, James (Marla) Sandy of Wisconsin and Emily (Rob) Telford of Bloomington; grandchildren, Cecilia Sandy and Owen Telford; sisters, Mary (Steve) Solon-Goers of Rockford, Jane Solon of Champaign and Jo (Dave) Lightle of Normal; brothers, Bart (Meg) Solon of Edwardsville, Ed (Treacy) Solon of Houston, Texas, Everett (Dee) Solon of Streator, Tony (Jane) Solon of Des Moines, Iowa, Jerry (Kris) Solon of Germantown, Tennessee and Tom (Mary Kay) Solon of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews also survive.

  He was preceded in death by his father.

  Raised in Eagle Township Pat attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1982.  He also graduated from Joliet Junior College with a degree in Agri-Business in 1984.

  He worked through the years for Oak State Products and Vactor Manufacturing.  He had proudly worked the family land as a 6th generation farmer. Pat took over operations of the Solon family farm after his father passed and continued until December 2014 when symptoms of ALS began to appear.

  He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception and BVM Eagle Church’s through the years.  He was currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church.  He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790, the Farm Bureau and the Streator Country Club.  He also enjoyed coaching with Streator Youth Football for many years.

  Pat was involved with the Pro Farmer publication Crop Tours.  Because of his farming knowledge he was quoted through the years in this publication as well as many other publications. 

  Diagnosed with ALS in 2015 Pat battled the disease with humor and grace.  He was an inspiration to many with his daily Facebook posts about positivity in the face of such a grave diagnosis.  Pat loved his Irish heritage and was thrilled be able to visit Ireland with Mary on their honeymoon. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.

  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Patrick’s pALS (his ALS foundation) or St. Vincent Depaul Society.
