Raphael (Ray) J. Corrigan, 88, Milwaukee, WI, formerly of rural Blackstone died peacefully Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
It was Ray’s wish that there be no visitation that might jeopardize the health of family and friends due to the COVID pandemic. Cremation rites will be accorded with private burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Ransom. The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born October 31, 1933 in Sunbury Township to Martin R. and Mayme V. (Broderick) Corrigan. He married Valerie R. Armstrong August 13,1966 in Streator.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Paul Hanneman, Franklin, WI; granddaughter Marjorie Hanneman of Ithaca, NY; grandson Harrison Hanneman of Chicago, IL; former wife Valerie R. Hebler, Park Hill, OK; sister Mary Jo Corrigan, Pontiac, IL; and niece Kathleen Condon, Sycamore, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Justin M. Corrigan; and niece Kristine Corrigan.
Ray was a lifelong farmer in the Blackstone, Ransom, and Kernan areas. He was a graduate of Dwight Township High School class of 1951 and he served in the United States Army as a tank mechanic.
He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception parish. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790 and BPOE Lodge #591.
Ray never knew a stranger and is remembered for his congeniality and ability to converse with anyone about any topic. In his retirement, Ray never missed a recital, concert, or competition involving his grandchildren. He would end each event with a hearty “Good show! Good Show!”
The family is grateful to the 9th floor palliative care team at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center for their loving and dignified care of dad.
