Obituary

 

Richard J. Lucas, 90, of Streator passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.  Rev. Fr. Ryan Mattingly will officiate.  Music will be provided by his grandson, Nick McFadden who will accompany soloist, Ricardo Dittmer. 

  Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  The rosary will be recited at 6:45 P.M.

  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be a grandson, Brent Lucas; grandson in law, Foster Pyle; godson, Jeff Malnar; and nephews, Tim Fornero, Mark Lucas and Matt Lucas.  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. 

  Born September 24, 1929 he was the son of Joseph and Anna (Creamean) Lucas.  He married Dorothy M. Pollett on July 25, 1953 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator.  She preceded him in death on September 26, 2015.
  He is survived by a daughter, Karen (Terry) Dordan of Streator; sons, Greg (Susie) Lucas of Streator and Rick (Joe Richard) Lucas of Streator; grandchildren, Nick (Sara) McFadden of Streator, Brent (Meagan) Lucas of Peoria and Brianna (Foster) Pyle of Oswego; sister in law, Judie Lucas of Poughkeepsie, New York and Joyce Pollett of Streator; many nieces and nephews also survive.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Elsie Fornero; and brothers, Joseph and Donald Lucas.
  Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the Class of 1947.

  He served in the United States Navy from 1948-1952 during the Korean Conflict.  He served on the USS Canisteo.

  He worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company as an Electrician for 38 years retiring in 1991.

  He was a 4th Degree member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790, Streator Elks Club, Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492

  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, softball and gardening through the years.  He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan and very much enjoyed their World Series Championship.  He was very active with St. Stephen’s School serving as the Athletic Director and coaching basketball and baseball for many years.

  He loved his family and especially attending his grandchildren’s musical and sporting events.  He will be sadly missed by his loving family.
