Richard G. “Rich” Washko, 90, of Streator passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at Heritage Health Therapy and Rehabilitation in Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Adam Soltis and Billy Missel; and nephews, Ron Washko, Rick Washko, Matt Washko and Bob Oak. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Post 1492 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 217.
Born April 1, 1926 in Streator he was the son of John and Julia (Estock) Washko. He married Evah Melvin on August 2, 1958 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator. She preceded him in death on April 12, 1993.
He is survived by a daughter, Lou Ann (Raymond) Soltis of Streator; grandchildren, Adam (Molly Muntz) Soltis of Streator and Mandi (Billy) Missel of Streator; great grandchildren, Stella Soltis and Blaize Missel; a brother, Robert Washko of Streator; a sister, Monica (Earl) Oak of South Carolina; nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sisters, Rita Washko, Lucille Martin, Evelyn McCauley, Irene Sisk Evers and Viola Walsworth; and brothers, Eugene, George, John, Frank and Albert Washko.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen’s Grade School.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Rich owned and operated, along with his family, Washko’s Bargain Store and later House of Furniture for over 45 years.
He was a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 217 and the Streator Moose Lodge. He was also a long time member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
