Robert L. Bennington, 81, of Streator passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at O.S.F. St. James Medical Center in Pontiac.
Mass of Christian will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 5th at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. Tuesday, February 4th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.
Born February 27, 1943 in Streator he was the son of Robert and Helen (Hinshaw) Bennington. He married Eleanore Samek on July 1, 1967 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanore Bennington of Streator; daughters, Barbara (Gregg) Yusko of Plainfield, Kathaleen Gordon of Aurora and Jennifer Smith of Appleton; a son, Robert (Theresa) Bennington III of Streator; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a brother, John (Darlene) Connor of Wenona; sisters in law, Evelyn Connor of Streator and Elsie (Daniel) Smith of Streator. numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ron Conner.
Born and raised in Streator he attended Woodland School.
He worked through the years as a cab driver. He later worked for Owens and Thatcher’s Glass Companies.
He was a member of former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790.
Bob was an avid fisherman and belonged to Sandy Ford Sportsmen’s club. He was very active with Sandy Ford and helped to develop the park around the pond. He enjoyed all sports and watching the games on the television. He especially loved the Washington Commanders. He loved playing Santa Claus every Christman for the kids. He will be dearly missed by his loving family.
