Robert A. “Sandy” McPherson, 77, of Rutland passed away Monday, August 19, 2024 at O.S.F. St. James Medical Center in Pontiac.

  Cremation rites will be accorded.  Private burial will take place in Moon Point Cemetery in rural Streator at a later date.  The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

  Born March 14, 1947 in Harvey he was the son of Robert and Rose Anne (Armstrong) McPherson.

  He is survived by cousins, Sally Bradley and her children, Erik and Justin (Laura) Crown all of Hedgesville, West Virginia; Betsy Armstrong of Hedgesville, West Virginia; Shari Erikson of Ballwin, Missouri and Peggy McNary of Washington; special friends, Neil and Dena Umphress of Rutland; Donny and Nancy Umphress of Rutland; Bill Law of California and Ted Law of Florida.

  He was preceded in death by his parents.

  Born and raised in San Diego, California he attended school in San Diego.

  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He served two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He was a disabled Veteran.

  In his early years he worked as a professional diver in California diving for Abalone.  He later worked through the years as a bartender and for A&M Builders as a welder.

  He moved to the Rutland area in the mid 1980’s.
