Roberta J. Foster

  Roberta J. Foster, 90, of Streator passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at her Holly Brook residence.

  Roberta was born April 1, 1932 in Freeport, Illinois. She was the daughter of Paul
R. Fisher of Freeport, IL and Lois (Karl) McNutt of Streator, IL.

  She is survived by a daughter, Karla (Ted) Micklos of New Berlin, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Kasee (Scott) Lange of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Kallie Micklos of Laveen, Arizona, Christa Foster of Streator and Kurt Foster of Streator; and great granddaughters Adelyn and Eloise Lange; a sister, Sandy Campbell of Streator; and special nieces, Kim Roberts and Kerri Promenschenkel; and nephews Greg (Bunny) Fisher and Gary (Mary) Fisher.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Foster; a brother, Donald Fisher; a brother-in-law; Frank Campbell and a nephew Eric Promenschenkel. She was also preceded in death by her very dear friend and companion of many years, Raymond Harcharik.

  Roberta attended Sherman Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1950.

  She worked for Thatcher’s Glass Factory for 39 ½ years and later worked for VanDuzer’s Jewelers for 11 years. While working at Thatcher’s she was very active with the Union.  She served as the Union Steward and President of the GBBA Union for 30 years.  Through this work she had the opportunity to travel. She negotiated contracts for the Union and was a female representative for the glass industry internationally. She was also the Business Committee Chairman of the GMP Local 174. 

  In her spare time Roberta had a passion for crocheting. Many friends and family have afghan blankets, baby blankets, crosses, and socks that were made with love and care by Roberta. She also enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital in the Gift Shop and for the Red Cross.

  She loved her family very much and she will be missed by many. Roberta had the ability to make people smile with a good joke or a one liner while being a bit stubborn and not afraid to speak her mind. She had a fire in her that could not be matched.

  The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Villas of Holly Brook. “Bertie” as they liked to call her, had such wonderful care and the staff were so loving, kind, and professional. She enjoyed her time with friends and her afternoon BINGO while residing there.

  A private funeral service was held with a burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator.  The family would like to thank Solon-Telford Funeral Home for providing exceptional service and support in this difficult time.
