Ronald E. Svetz, 88, of Streator passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Streator.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Full military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 8:45 A.M.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Private family burial will be at a later date in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.
Born January 7, 1934 in Streator he was the son of Stephen and Ethel (Chamberlain) Svetz. He married Donna Rogers on October 1, 1960 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2022.
He is survived by daughters, Angela (Tim) Walczynski of Lowell and Kathleen Svetz of Streator; a son, Timothy Svetz of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Matthew Greider of Streator, Adam Greider of Beufort, South Carolina, Chelsey (Matthew) Cowan of Wenona and Kaylee (Dylan) Hovious of Streator; a great granddaughter, Nova Cowan; brothers, James (Pat) Svetz of Hartsell, Alabama and William (Mary) Svetz of Streator; a brother in law, Ronald Elias of Streator; a former son in law who still remains close with the family, Richard Greider of Streator; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Patricia Elias; and a brother, Stephen Svetz.
Born and raised in Streator Ron attended St. Stephen’s Grade School. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1957 as a Medic. He received his GED while in the Army.
Through the years he worked for National Tea as a Manager; Armstrong Brothers Lumber as a Regional Manager and for Wolohan Lumber in LaSalle from where he retired in 1995. After his retirement he worked for Otter Creek Market and lastly for Ace Hardware for several years as a customer service associate.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790, the Streator AMVETS and served as an Usher through the years at St. Stephen’s Church.
A devoted husband to his wife Donna of 61 years Ron was a talented and self-taught man who could do just about anything. He was great father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his loving family. Ron will be remembered by all for the way that his smile brightened up the room.
Memorials may be directed St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Special Olympics of Illinois.
