Saranne “Sally” Sopko, 78, of Streator passed away Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the ARC of Streator.

  Cremation rites will be accorded.  There will be no services.  The Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of the arrangements.

  Born March 4, 1947 in Streator she was the daughter of Varland and Joanna (List) Mayfield.  She was formerly married to Gary “Soupy” Sopko.  He preceded her in death on June 19, 2017.

  She is survived by a daughter, Melanie Sopko of Streator; a granddaughter, Vara Jo Glisson of Streator; brothers, Jon (Rosalie) Mayfield of Bangkok, Thailand and David (Linda) Mayfield of Madison, Wisconsin; special best friends, Joan Scott and Sandy Vernon; nieces and nephews also survive.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; her son in law, Alex Glisson; and loving dog, Buster.

  Born and raised in Streator she attended Greeley Grade School and graduated from Streator High School. She later studied Nursing in Evansville, Indiana and earned her Bachelor in Nursing from Sangamon State.

  Sally worked as a Nurse for 40 years.  She worked for St. Mary’s Hospital and Dr. Zafar for nearly 20 years and later worked for O.S.F. St. James Hospital in Pontiac from where she retired.  She enjoyed her profession and was known as a compassionate and caring Nurse by all.

  She was a member of Park Presbyterian Church and also the Boot kickers Dancing Group.

  She loved going to movies and going to dinner with family and friends.  She especially loved being a grandma to the light of her life Vara Jo.  She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
