Severa Fraga, 80, of Streator passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024 at O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 4th at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Thursday, October 3rd at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 6:45 P.M.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be, Lucas Fraga, Javier Sanchez, Jr., Ricardo Sanchez, Joel Sanchez, Armando Sanchez and Serapio Castillo, Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Devin Hawley.
Born November 8, 1943 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps, Mexico she was the daughter of Eduardo and Magdalena (Hernandez) Aguilar. She married Max Fraga, Sr. on August 9, 1963 in Laredo, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Max Fraga, Sr. of Streator; daughters, Anita (Abraham) Flores of Streator and Sylvia (Joe) Harmon-Fraga of Streator; sons, Max (Lisa Goodrich) Fraga, Jr. of Streator, Miguel (Denise) Fraga of LaSalle and Eleasar (Devin Hawley) Fraga of Streator; 23 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and one on the way; brothers, Jose Luis (Eudelia) Aguilar of Laredo, Texas, Al (Karen) Perez, Jr. of Streator and Carlos (Vicki) Perez of Ottawa; a sister, Maria Perez of Streator; her beloved companion, Bear; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Magdalena “Maggie” Magana; her step-father, Alvaro Perez, Sr.; brothers, Manuel Aguilar, Santiago Aguilar, Juan Aguilar and Phillip Juan Reynero; sisters, Martha Salas and Angela Reyes; and her mother in law, Anacleta Martinez.
Severa was raised in the Laredo area and attended Farias Grade School in Laredo.
She worked through the years for Paris Garter Company, Tuscorora Plastics, Dan Howard, and Seattle Sutton. She also was a teacher’s aide at Sherman School.
Severa and her family were one of the first Spanish families to move to Streator. She was well known in the community for assisting other Spanish families who moved here to assimilate to the culture. She helped them with translating and many other needs they had when they moved to the United States. She was also known for her great cooking and especially her flour tortillas and tacos. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family.
