Shirley A. Walker

  Shirley A. Walker, 94, of Streator passed away Monday, May 1, 2023 at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

  Private burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.  The Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

  Born January 21, 1929 in Streator she was the daughter of Samuel and Velma (Young) Quandt.  She married Dale E. Walker on August 27, 1949.  He preceded her in death on July 20, 1996.

  She is survived by a daughter, Lynne (Dr. William) VanderWaal of Bloomington; grandchildren, Adam (Suzie) VanderWaal of Asheville, North Carolina, Scott (Stephanie) VanderWaal of Katy, Texas and Elizabeth (Garrett) Benson of Park Ridge; great grandchildren, Wynn, Emme, Leo and Finn VanderWaal.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Carol Quandt in infancy.

  Born and raised in Streator she lived her lifetime here.  She attended local grade schools and graduated from Streator High School.  She later attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville.

  She was primarily a homemaker through the years.

  Shirley was an avid golfer and was a member of the Streator Country Club for many years.

  She enjoyed spending time at the Country Club golfing and playing Bridge.

  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Streator.

  She also had a love of art which she shared with her husband Dale.  They were art collectors and traveled to many shows around the area.

  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Streator.
