Steve Laird Obituary

  Steve Laird, 69, of Streator passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022 at O.S.F. St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

  Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. 

  Honorary pallbearers will be, Russ Corcoran, Jim Jaegle, Tom Decker, Joe Richard, Will Hatzer and Jordan Hatzer.

  Born October 25, 1952 in Metropolis, Illinois he was the son of Scott and Barbara (Williams) Laird.

  He married Jacqueline Jordan on July 26, 1972 in Pontiac.

  He is survived by his wife, Jackie Laird of Streator; a daughter, Amy (Jeff) Hatzer of Streator; grandchildren, Will Hatzer and Jordan Hatzer of Streator; a sister, Donna (Bruce) Hjerpe of Minnesota.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Melanie Laird; and his beloved dog Oliver.

  He attended Metropolis grade schools and graduated from Woodland High School in the class of 1970.

  He was a Millwright by trade and worked out of the Local 2158 Union Shop.  He retired when he was 55.

  He was a charter member of the LaSalle County Cruiser’s and the Starved Rock Corvette Club and rarely missed a Cruise Night in the area.  He was also a member of the Streator 4th of July Committee and Light up Streator.

  Through the years he enjoyed throwing darts and bowling and played in several leagues.  His other pastimes included golfing, scuba diving, tinkering around his yard and garden and following his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. 

  Steve’s family was very important to him.  He spent many years coaching his daughter Amy’s Softball teams and loved following his grandchildren with their various activities and spending time with them. He loved traveling with his wife Jackie to many different locations including Hawaii, Las Vegas and Texas.  They also enjoyed many cruises together.  They followed NHRA Drag Racing all around the country.  He loved muscle cars and MOPAR and currently owned two Corvettes’ (1970 and 2014).  He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

  Memorials may be directed to Streator 4th of July Committee and Light up Streator.
