Sue C. Arkels

  Sue C. Arkels, 72, of Streator passed away Monday, September 19, 2022 at O.S.F. Center for Health – Streator.

  Funeral services will be at 12:00 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2022 at Park Presbyterian Church, Streator.  Rev. Caleb Suydam will officiate.

  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2022 at the Park Presbyterian Church, Streator.

  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. 

  Born April 9, 1950 in Streator she was the daughter of Robert and Phyllis (Peterson) Ryon.  She married Rick Arkels on October 10, 1975 at St. Anthony’s Church in Streator. 

  She is survived by her husband, Rick Arkels of Streator; sons, Richard (Amanda) Arkels of Streator and Ryon Arkels of Streator; grandchildren, Joeylynn, Carson and Scarlett Arkels; Cabrey Boyington and Keegan Sauers; a brother, Thomas (Deb) Ryon of Evergreen, Colorado; a sister, Kay (Paul) LaChance of Rittman, Ohio; mother in law, Mary Arkels of Streator; sisters in law, Therese Simpson of Streator and Mary Ann (Brian) Reh of Michigan; nieces and nephews also survive.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother in law, Frank Coop.

  Born and raised in Streator she attended Streator grade schools and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1968.  She later attended Cottey College in Missouri and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Illinois State University in 1981.

  She was a teacher at Grand Ridge Grade School for many years retiring in 2012.

  She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, Streator, Retired Teachers Association, Chapter IC P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Streator Book Club.

  Sue was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

  Memorials may be directed to Park Presbyterian Church or the P.E.O. Educational Scholarship Fund.
