Velma J. Benner

  Velma J. Benner, 88, of Streator passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Goldwater Care in Pontiac.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 5th at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.

  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 5th at the church.

  Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Streator.

  Born January 26, 1934 in Goodland, Indiana she was the daughter of Raymond and Cecelia (Lord) Miiller.  She married Thomas J. Benner on August 25, 1956 in Goodland, Indiana.

  She is survived by her husband, Thomas Benner of Streator; a daughter, Cindy (Bill) Thomas of Simpsonville, South Carolina; sons, Ron (Mary) Benner of Rapid River, Michigan, Greg Benner of Anaheim, California and Mike “Whitey” (Leanne) Benner of Streator; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Gene (Marsha) Miiller of Kentland, Indiana; and a sister in law, Carol Miiller of Logansport, Indiana.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lori Benner; sisters, Marie Welch and Shirley Miiller; and brothers, Ralph and James Miiller.

  Born in Indiana she attended Goodland, Indiana grade schools and high school.

  She worked for St. Mary’s Hospital for 30 years as a clerk in the Admitting Department.  She later volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital as a Pink Lady.

  She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and she and her husband enjoyed dancing and were members of the Bootkickers.  They enjoyed over 20 years of traveling to Bradenton, Florida each winter to get away from the cold.  They enjoyed their “snowbird” lifestyle and also enjoyed going to the Greyhound Track.

  She loved playing card games of all kinds and particularly Euchre.  She and her husband Tom passed down their love of card games with their children and grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
