Walter A. Henne, Sr.

Walter A. Henne, Sr., 73, of Streator passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020 at O.S.F. St Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate. Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Streator. Family will serve as pallbearers and grandson Oliver Staley-Henne will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Born March 2, 1947 in Streator, he was the son of Walter and Margaret (Kolischan) Henne. He married Michelle “Shelly” Meredith on December 3, 1966 at St. Anthony’s Church in Streator.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle “Shelly” Henne; children, Leasa Henne of Chicago; Kristina (Jared) Williams of Tonawanda, New York; Walter “Tony” A. (Kristene) Henne, Jr. of Chicago; Jeffrey (Angela) Staley-Henne of Terre Haute, Indiana; grandchildren, Oliver Staley-Henne, Ashleigh and Sawyer Williams and sister, Sonja (Daniel) Allbee of Riverside, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in 1965. He attended Illinois Valley Community College and earned his Associates Degree in Business.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Walter was a United States Postal Carrier for many years. Walter also owned and operated A and M Transmission.
He was affiliated with St. Michael’s the Archangel Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Streator.

Walter enjoyed home remodeling, golfing, drag racing, and taking walks with his friends.
He loved to tinker in his shop and travel to Florida and California. Walter was kind hearted and loved animals, humor, and guitars and will be dearly missed by his loving family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Michael’s Church or School, Priest for Life and EWTN, Guardian Angel Outreach, or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
